Celia Hammond was elected as the fifth member for the Federal Electorate of Curtin in Western Australia in the 2019 Federal Election.
Celia completed her secondary education at John XXIII College and tertiary studies at the University of Western Australia and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Portland in 2017.
Celia was admitted as a legal practitioner in Western Australia in 1992. She worked as a lawyer in private practice before moving into a career as a legal academic. In 1998, Celia became one of the founding staff members at the University’s Fremantle Law School.
Celia held the position of Vice Chancellor of the University of Notre Dame Australia from 2008 – 2019. Her expertise in law and interest in education became a passion for helping young people reach their potential.
Since being elected to Parliament, Celia has served on the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services. She currently serves on the Parliamentary Joint Committees on Human Rights and Intelligence and Security; the Joint Select Committee on Implementation of the National Redress Scheme; and the House of Representatives Standing Committees on Employment, Education and Training; Indigenous Affairs; and Economics.
Celia lives locally with her husband and three teenage sons. She knows Curtin is a wonderful place to grow up, raise a family and enjoy retirement. Celia will continue to work with the whole community to help make it even better in the future.
